Gil Hedley: Fascia and stretching: The fuzz Speech

This is really interesting little talk about fascia in our bodies and the power of movement and manual therapies.

Be warned that he shows the fascia using a real body so if you are squimish I would recommend that you don’t watch.

The Power of Consistency 01/19/2012

This week I have been thinking alot about the importance of consistency.  Thinking about its value and its power in so many aspects of our lives and how we are to eachother and to ourselves.
The biggest example for me has been through my pilates classes with Joyce Tyson (www.walktallpilates.co.uk).  I have a weekly class and it has had a really positive impact on the health and strength of my body.  Not being able to attend for a couple of weeks over Xmas meant that I really started to feel the difference without it.  Now back into classes it highlights my need to consitently attend the classes to maitain the positive impact and also to be able to progress to get stronger and healthier.
What is consistent in your life?  What helps to support you and let you gro

The Power of Tea 01/12/2012

I hope this finds everyone in the swing of this new year and feeling refreshed and ready for what lies ahead.  This is the time of year that gets people thinking about what has been, where they are and where they are headed.  I think this is a really useful reflection and I’m sure we would all benefit from doing this at regular intervals, not just once a year when perhaps we don’t feel at our best.

Often people are thinking about their health and wellbeing particularly after Christmas.  Something I have discovered that has helped me is ‘Attic Tea’ a tea school that enlightens you about the beneficial qualities of Chinese tea.  I recently went for a tea tasting session and would highly recommend the experience.  I never thought I’d say this but it has changed the way I drink tea forever.

As a client of mine you can receive 60% off a tea tasting session.  Contact me for further information.

Ted Talks 12/15/2011

A friend of mine has introduced me to Ted Talks.  Its a website (non profit) that is a place for ideas and inspiration.  My friend likes to have a look at it at least once a day and I can see why.  Its really interesting to be able to read/watch other peoples ideas and thoughts.  You may not agree with all of it (and that's no bad thing) but some of it will make sense, resonate with you or spark something in you.  Have a look www.ted.com and I will share any that stand out to me.

Interesting blurb on rhythm and flow.  Probably attracted to it after a swim this morning that felt out of sync...like swimmer number 2!

Mind/Body connection 10/27/2011

I've been thinking about this subject for a while and believe more and more that there can be a powerful and physical connection between the mind and the body.  Googling around this subject today lead me to Amazon and the following book;

Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection(Paperback) by John E. Sarno

Having read the on-line introduction I was interested to read John E. Sarno's section on 'Holistic';

"...the predominant idea is that one must treat the 'whole person', a wise concept that is generally neglected by contemporary medicine....Perhaps holistic should be defined as that which include consideration of both the emotional and structural aspects of health and illness.  In accepting this definition one does not reject scientific method...."

This is a good definition of a holistic approach and philosophy.

I am curious to read more from John E. Sarno around the subject of Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS) and how it can play a part in our health and wellbeing.  I think I will try to buy this book and see how I get on and report back anything of interest or significance.
